IDIOMATIC EXPRESSION

Understanding the new expression

1. What's eating (you) = What's bothering you?
Example :
Achan : I don't want to talk right now.
Naylin : What's eating you?
Achan : Nothing. I'll talk to you later.
2. Get something off one's chest = reveal something ( ussualy a confession or complaint) that has been bothering you.
Example :
Achan : I have to get something off my chest. It's been bothering me for a long time.
Naylin : What is it?
Achan : I dont want to you borrow my car anymore because you put on so many miles.
3. (Not) have the guts (to) = (not) have the courage (to do something)
  • note: When someone is afraid, it is common to use the expression not have the guts. The affirmative form is often used in questions.
Example :
Achan : Do you have the guts to swim there? there may be snakes.
Naylin : No. I don't have the guts.
4. give it a shot = try something; give something a chance to happen(while knowing you can make a chance if it doesn't work out).
  •  note : Don't use this idiom with something requires a long-term moral or ethical commitment such as marriage or getting a pet.
Example :
Achan : I have offered a new job.
Naylin : Will you take it?
Achan : Yeah, I think I'll give it a shot.
 5. (someone) wouldn't be caught dead (whit someone) = someone would never want to be with someone because of dislike, fear, or shame.
  • note : this is a very, very strong expression that you should learn just for comprehension.
Example :
1. You know, those two politicians wouldn't be dead with each other.
2. She wouldn't be caught dead with those fanatics.
6. Skip it! = lets not talk about it anymore. = forget it!
  • note : Skip it! and Forget it! are command that are very not polite.
Example :
Naylin : Come on. tell me what's wrong.
Achan : Let's just skip it!, OK? I dont want to talk about it.
